Pastor – John Forsythe
John was raised on the beaches of central Florida, first in Ormond Beach before moving to Indialantic in the summer of 1965. He graduated from Mel-Hi in 1972 and Florida State in 1976. He then spent the next 29 years in Texas as a marine biologist with the Univ. of Texas in Galveston (another barrier island!). read more…
Worship Ministry – Lowell Mahler
Lowell started in the worship ministry at a church in Fort Worth, Texas in 2002 serving as a worship team leader for a youth group. He served there for 5 years and then started leading worship for the adult church body. After relocating to Satellite Beach, Florida he and his family began attending CCS where they knew they had found their new church home. God has blessed him by being able to take part in the worship ministry at CCS as well as help with the youth.
A/V Ministry – Kym Mahler
Kym entered the A/V ministry in 2006 to help support her husband, Lowell, in his role as a worship leader. What started as clicking through power point slides has grown into a God instilled desire to help lead the body of Christ into worship through support of the worship ministry with good quality sound and the presentation of pleasing song backdrops and video. Kym is also Surfside’s bookkeeper.

Youth Ministry – Lowell Mahler
Lowell began serving youth at a church in Fort Worth, Texas in 2002 as a table leader and worship team leader. He served there for 5 years, with a growing heart for ministering to Jr. High and High School students. After relocating to Florida he became involved with youth again with his son entering youth and seeing the need for helpers at CCS. His desire is to see Calvary Chapel Surfside’s youth grow in their understanding and knowledge of God’s Word and to lead a Holy Spirit directed life.
Women’s Ministry – Opal Forsythe
Opal is Pastor John’s wife and is the leader of the Women’s Ministry at Calvary Surfside. Opal was raised in the Baptist tradition but she was dramatically effected by Calvary Chapel style teaching when she encountered it at Calvary Houston. Before long, she began serving in women’s ministry at CC Houston. Since helping plant this church with John in 2008, her desire for the women of our church has been that they would be built up in their relationship with Jesus through the study of God’s Word and mutually encouraged in Christian fellowship to continue growing in that relationship with Christ.
